Sometime ago I blogged about why building a website with a CMS system such as Joomla was not necessarily a good idea. Specifically I was worried about the lack of control and the freqency of updates to these open source applications by hundreds of 3rd party developers. Experience has shown that often as not updates break existing functions and whilst support is a plenty it is the case that often this support doesn't relate to the urgency in quite the same was as our client. The upshot was we decided that open source CMS were more trouble than they were worth.
However, we've recently been seduced by WordPress. Whilst similar to other open source ontent management systems, Wordpress has it's roots in Blogging. Having only recently expanded it's use towards being a website content management system, Wordpress is still simple enough to get the job done without being overly complicated.
Wordpress may not have the freedom of design that a bespoke website has but it is certainly flexible enough to offer what most businesses need; with the added advantage that content management is included.
The advent of the credit crunch has forced businesses to consider every pound they spend and increasingly we are being asked to design within lower budgets.
In our testing WordPress has proved stable and the 2.9 upgrade worked without incident. Obvioulsy we are still vary of WordPress' 3rd party plugins but as tool to build lower cost websites we see WordPress as an opportunity to build content managed websites quickly and easily as a price that customers now expect.
Why not give us a call to discuss whether WordPress can be used to build a website for your business.
